Later from Texas. — By the arrival since
our last of the steamship New York, Captain Phillips, we have Galveston
dates to the 11th and Corpus Christi to the 7th.
It would appear that Gen. Darnell has been
elected Lieut. Governor of the new State by a small majority. The
majority of Gen. Henderson, for Governor, is very heavy.
Two theatres are open at Corpus Christi, the
“Army” and the “Union.” They are dancing the Polka there, showing
that the area of civilization is extending.
The news from the frontiers is of little
interest. Emigration continued, the roads being filled with wagons, &c.
